In the second quarter of 2022, the top communication apps on the Android platform in Kenya exhibited diverse performance trends. Here’s a detailed look at how each app fared during this period, based on data from Sensor Tower.

WhatsApp Messenger maintained a strong presence with downloads ranging from around 96K to 189K per week. The app peaked in the week of May 30 with approximately 189K downloads. Active users remained consistently high, starting from 10.8M at the beginning of the quarter and reaching around 11.4M by the end of June.

Snapchat experienced a steady decline in weekly downloads from 115K at the beginning of April to around 44K by the end of June. However, the app saw an upward trend in active users, growing from 882K in late March to about 1.08M by the end of June. Revenue for Snapchat was minimal, with minor peaks of $6 and $4 in late March and late May, respectively.

Opera Mini: Fast Web Browser had a varied download performance, peaking at approximately 92K in early April and falling to around 44K in mid-June before rising again to 62K by the end of the quarter. The app’s active users showed a positive trend, increasing from 536K in late March to around 617K by late June.

WhatsApp Business saw a drop in weekly downloads from 99K at the start of the quarter to around 40K by mid-June, with a slight recovery to 48K in the last week of June. Active users fluctuated slightly but remained around the 520K mark throughout the quarter.

Truecaller: AI Call Blocker had a strong start with 53K downloads in early April, reaching a peak of about 71K at the end of May. However, downloads dropped to around 34K by the end of June. The app's active users showed a positive trend, growing from 3.52M in late March to around 3.71M by the end of June. Revenue for Truecaller fluctuated between $1K and $1.6K throughout the quarter.
